							Abstract

Democratic electoral processes are grounded in the free formation of public opinion, based on truthful, pluralistic, and verified information, and freely expressed through voting. However, in an environment where it is increasingly difficult to discern between truthful information and disinformation, and where social networks are replacing traditional media as sources of information, the question arises as to whether the formation of public opinion continues to be truly free. This concern is intensified by the advancement of artificial intelligence, which allows the truth to be blurred and the freedom of choice to be conditioned through deepfakes, computational propaganda, and algorithmic segmentation, posing a new challenge for which our electoral system might not be adequately prepared.
